ENHANCING LEGAL ACCESS FOR SURVIVORS OF VIOLENCE

We are happy to introduce our new project, funded by the Women Trust Fund Tanzania, called Enhancing Legal Access for Survivors of Violence – Empower Justice Project.

This project has two main objectives:

  1. Improved access to human rights and justice for survivors in cases of violence

The project will focus on increasing community resilience in accessing human rights and justice by enhancing access to legal education and support, and by connecting community members with legal providers at the local level. This will create an enabling environment for GBV survivors to report incidents and seek legal services.

  1. Increased effectiveness in handling cases of violence reported by women and girls, with referrals for investigation and prosecution

Under this objective, DWWT will collaborate with existing community paralegals who serve as legal providers at the community level to improve the reporting of cases of violence affecting women and children. The project will also work to increase the capacity of the community to report cases of violence positively to existing legal structures in their localities. Consequently, DWWT will conduct mobile legal clinics in rural areas where the project interventions are implemented.

Scope of the Project

The project will be implemented in the Manyara region, Hanang District, specifically in the Gehandu, Endaski, and Balang’dalalu wards. The targeted groups are women and girls in the Manyara region.
